Practicing Metta meditation improves a person’s mind state and has lasting and profound emotional, physical, and spiritual benefits. Through scientific research, Metta meditation, or loving-kindness, has been shown to decrease migraines, chronic pain, and symptoms of depression and PTSD. It increases compassion and feelings of empathy, as well as decreases criticism of self and others. It can even positively affect the aging process and makes you more resilient to stress.
Please join our special guest Jan Sheppard for this session of Loving Kindness Meditation. Janice Cittasubha Sheppard was trained by Luang Por Pasanno and Ajahn Amaro of Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery as a Lay Buddhist Minister in the Theravada Thai Forest lineage, and as a Community Dharma Leader at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. She has been practicing meditation since 1995 and teaching meditation since 2002. She teaches meditation, leads retreats, and offers a weekly meditation group. She also teaches a year-long intensive program, Form and Freedom in Theravada Buddhism, for individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of the Buddha’s teachings and meditation practice. She provides mindfulness meditation instruction in a range of secular and religious settings including governmental offices and health-care facilities. She also leads Buddhist services, mindfulness meditation groups, and offers Buddhist pastoral visits in four Wisconsin prisons on an ongoing basis.
