This group will ease the burden of a busy schedule by fulfilling multiple roles – support group, meditation instruction, and community.
It can take a long time to regain normal strength after radiation or chemotherapy and as a result it can be difficult for local residents to access services in Madison. Come to experience group support, with 5 to 15 minutes of meditation, breath work or visualizations in each session. The main emphasis of practice will be non-sectarian although the group facilitator may draw on techniques from various mind-body or spiritual traditions.
Anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis and is in any phase of treatment or recovery is welcome to attend. Interested participants can join at any time, but are asked to call ahead of time or register for free below.
Even if you have been cancer-free for a long time, please consider joining the group. Contributing the wisdom gained from experience will profoundly benefit those who have experienced a more recent diagnosis.
Retired UCC Minister and interfaith chaplain Lisa Schoenwetter will facilitate the group. During her professional career she led many support groups that dealt with a variety of issues. Lisa survived a very rare and aggressive sarcoma ten years ago, and is a passionate believer in the power of love and companionship to heal mind, body and spirit.
Joyful Path serves individuals who are experiencing stress, illness, chronic pain or want a more meaningful life. Joyful Path offers practical, science-based techniques as well as spiritual instruction. Founded by Buddhists, Joyful Path’s complementary healing services, meditation instruction and spiritual direction are available to all regardless of spiritual orientation.
